How do you want to fish today?    

Mountain rivers, spring creeks, coming up out of the ground, jumping and bouncing during its first run, by time getting more mature and with gentler gradients flowing peacefully, meandering, through the landscapes. Passing rocky hills, deep forests, meadows and villages, over cobble and beds with fine gravel and silt, the nutritious crystal clear water houses lots of trout and grayling.

There is plenty of good fishing waters in Bosnia.

Are you looking for a special specimen?  Or an exclusive scenery? Do you want to go fishing where very few went before? Solitary or you want to share a beer with the locals after a pleasant day by the river? Trophy size? Sure to catch or a challenge? Wild or mild surroundings? Restaurant or dinner on the banks?  In order to get the most out of your stay, you might appreciate some coaching on how to approach the different waters, what technique, what to do and not to do. Season: With local variations season in Bosnia is long, from 1 of March until end of December. Spring and autumn weather are unstable regarding temperature with quick changes but in general temperature is warmer than in northern Europe. Summer can be very warm with temperatures well above 30 degrees Celsius but still some waters offer excellent fishing even during draft periods (e.g July).

Waters. The rivers are spring fed and produces clear filtered, alkaline, earth warmed/cooled spring water that is Gin clear and promote diverse weed growth and a very rich insect life. Water temperature stays between 5-10 degrees all year. Some rivers demand long thin leaders (down to 0.1mm) and a very careful approach. All waters are chosen because of the experience they can offer. Not all contains fish of “trophy size”. The waters we are offering are different, some wider and strong, others not easily accessible and offering a secluded experience, some pass through a mild agricultural landscape others are remote far way in the mountains. Some are fly fishing only others are known only by locals.

It is possible to combine all waters but we recommend that you make your choice within the same geographical area if you are not prepared to spend some time traveling between the rivers. The waters are divided into groups, see diagram and presentation of waters below.

Fishing technique, dry fly, nymph and streamers: In the often crystal clear water an accurate presentation often makes the difference between success and failure. It is wise to study the waters before approaching. You may very well find out that “sniper fishing” (“sight fishing”), i.e. aiming for a spotted fish pays off much more than trying to cover as much water as possible with your flies. With your order confirmation you will receive information about the actual conditions on your waters including recommended choice of flies.

Equipment: In general think “light weight”. Water is crystal clear and fish is easily spooked. Depending on type of waters aftma 3, 4 or 5, length 8-9 feet is recommended. Only on some waters (e.g. Drina) may a 6 or aftma 7 be advised. It’s possible and recommended to buy local flies. Waders are not needed on all waters. Nets and no barbed hooks are obligatory on “Fly Only” rivers.

Possibility Due to the fact that Bosnia is not a member of the EU we can offer very good prices on fishing equipment directly from our partners. With the general low prices in Bosnia and excluding the VAT you can very well get hold of your favorite rod with a 30-40% off the EU price. If you place your order in due time it’s also possible to have your new equipment waiting for you at arrival. Of course all items are sold with international warranty.  

Accommodation: depending on location we sleep in small private pensions or in private homes. Rooms with 2 or 3 beds. No private shower. Simple but comfortable, always close to the waters when not stated otherwise. At waters ”far away from civilization” we offer the possibility to camp in tents.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch package, dinner (no beverage included) If you have any allergies make sure to state them in your reservation.

Your hosts: Swedish and Bosnians. We speak the following languages: Swedish, English, German, French and Serbo-Croatian. Our fishing guides speak English.

Meeting point: We will pick up groups of passengers at one of the following airports: Sarajevo (BiH), Zagreb, Split, Zadar, Dubrovnik (Cr) and Belgrade (Srb). Low budget air fares are possible to all these airports if booked in due time. (e.g. German wings, Austrian Airlines, Norwegian, Croat Air, Ryan Air) If you arrive by car we will meet you at the border.

Bosnia-Herzegovina, general information: Bosnia is a beautiful and diverse country with an intriguing blend of history and modernity. The scenery can be stunning. People are friendly and hospitable. War ended 15 years ago. Mines are not a problem where we are going. Price level: beer in restaurant 1.5 Euro, in shop 0.5 Euro.

Passports and documents This trip requires a passport. Make sure your passport has six months validity at the time of travel. Citizens of the European Union do not need visa. If you are coming by car make sure you have a valid “green card” with you.
